Colgate-Palmolive (India) Q4 Results: Strong Growth Driven by Premium Segment and Rural Recovery

Mumbai: May 14, 2024 - Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, the country's leading oral care company, announced its financial results for the fourth quarter (Q4) and the full financial year (FY) ended March 31, 2024. The company delivered a strong performance in Q4 FY2024, reporting a significant rise in net profit and revenue, primarily fueled by robust growth in its premium portfolio and a notable recovery in rural demand.

Key Performance Highlights:

  • Net Profit Surge: The company's Net Profit After Tax (PAT) for Q4 FY24 increased by 20.1% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹379.8 crore, up from ₹316.2 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

  • Double-Digit Revenue Growth: Total Revenue from Operations for the quarter grew by 10.4% YoY to ₹1,480.7 crore (Net Sales stood at ₹1,480.7 crore, compared to ₹1,341.7 crore a year ago).

  • Domestic Growth: Domestic sales grew by a strong 10.7% for the quarter, driven by excellent performance in the Toothpaste segment.

  • Rural-Urban Dynamics: A key highlight was the rural market recovery, which continued to exhibit positive signs of demand and grew ahead of urban markets.

  • Margin Expansion: The company's profitability saw a substantial boost, with the Operating Profit Margin (OPM) expanding significantly, reaching a peak, largely aided by lower raw material costs and cost-saving initiatives under the 'Funding The Growth' program.

  • Strategic Investments: The company maintained its commitment to brand building, with advertising and promotional expenses increasing by approximately 18% YoY in the quarter to support new product launches and campaigns.

  • Premiumisation Strategy Pays Off: The company's focus on its strategic priorities, including driving premiumisation through science-based innovation and product upgrades across the core portfolio, was a significant growth driver. Recent launches and relaunches, such as Colgate Active Salt with an enhanced formula and new variants in the Palmolive body wash portfolio, contributed to the positive mix.

Management Commentary:

Ms. Prabha Narasimhan, Managing Director & CEO of Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, commented on the results, stating that the strong double-digit growth in both the top line and profit came from a continued commitment to strategic priorities. She highlighted that from a geography standpoint, the rural business grew faster than urban, and the company saw continued strong performance in Modern Trade and E-Commerce platforms. She expressed optimism for the coming year, citing market recovery, continued strengthening of the brand, and a robust innovation pipeline, including the planned launch of a tooth-whitening booster under the Visible White Range.

The Board also declared a Second Interim Dividend of ₹26 per share and a one-time special interim dividend of ₹10 per share for the financial year, totaling ₹36 per share, in view of the company’s outstanding performance.
