Global technology giant Google and venture capital firm Accel have announced a significant partnership to accelerate India's growing artificial intelligence ecosystem. This alliance, unveiled on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, will co-invest in early-stage Indian AI startups through a dedicated cohort.

The Investment and Structure

The partnership will function under Accel's existing Atoms program, specifically launching the Atoms AI Cohort 2026.

  • Co-Investment Model: Each selected company is eligible for up to $2 million in joint funding. This equity investment will be split, with Accel contributing up to $1 million and Google’s AI Futures Fund matching that amount.

  • Target: The initiative aims to back at least 10 frontier AI startups, providing them with a substantial capital base often scarce at the pre-seed and seed stages in India.

  • Founders: The program is open to founders based in India as well as the Indian diaspora building AI products for India and global users.

Unmatched Technical & Mentorship Access

The support goes far beyond just capital, prioritizing the technical resources critical for building world-class AI products:

  • Compute Credits: Startups will receive up to $350,000 in compute credits to utilize across Google Cloud, Gemini, and DeepMind platforms.

  • Early Access to Models: Founders will gain privileged, early access to Google’s most advanced AI models, including the latest versions of Gemini and experimental features from DeepMind.

  • Mentorship: The companies will benefit from hands-on, one-on-one mentorship sessions with partners from Accel and direct technical guidance from Google Labs and DeepMind research teams.

  • Global Exposure: The program includes global immersion experiences in London and the Bay Area, and potential participation in key events like Google I/O.

Focus Areas and Strategic Vision

Accel and Google are actively looking for companies that are building the next generation of AI-first products across several high-impact domains:

  1. Future of Coding: Tools that empower a new generation of "makers" and 100x engineers.

  2. Workplace Productivity: Solutions enhancing efficiency and collaboration.

  3. Creativity and Entertainment: Platforms for content creation, including media, art, and immersive experiences.

  4. Applied AI: Companies leveraging AI in sectors like healthcare, robotics, and financial services.

Prayank Swaroop, Partner at Accel, emphasized the initiative's goal: "With Google, we are creating a ready stack of resources to help Indian founders build and scale globally from day one. We are helping remove the barriers that have traditionally limited early-stage AI builders."

Jonathan Silber, Co-founder and Director of Google's AI Futures Fund, highlighted India's strategic importance: "We firmly believe that the founders in India will play a leading role in defining the next era of global technology. This first-of-its-kind collaboration globally underscores our belief in India's massive talent pool."

This partnership reinforces Google's larger commitment to India, following its October announcement of a multi-billion dollar investment to set up an AI data center in the country.

📅 Timeline & Applications

  • Applications: Open now on the Accel website.

  • Application Deadline: January 26, 2026.

  • Program Start: February 2026.
